Prospective Students

Researchers within the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry in the Departments of Medical Genetics, Pediatrics, and Obstetrics and Gynecology are able to accept students through the Graduate Program in Maternal and Child Health.

Recommendation for admissions will be made by the graduate coordinators of the participating departments. Our Graduate program has a higher requirement than FGSR and we require a grade point average equivalent to 3.5 on a 4.0 scale based on the equivalent of the most recent two years of coursework (or last 60 course credits).

If you plan to apply to a professional program (i.e. medicine) in the next two years, we strongly discourage you from applying to the MatCH program. One of the conditions of this provost-funded program is the timely completion of degrees. If a student leaves this program before the completion of his/her degree then this condition will not be met. If you have any questions regarding your particular situation, please consult the MatCH administrator who will be able to advise you.

Applications from international students are welcome. English is the primary language of instruction at the University of Alberta and all applicants must be proficient in English. Applicants with degrees/qualifications in a language other than English need to demonstrate English Language Proficiency.

  • International students whose language of instruction was not English in their undergraduate or previous graduate program must also present a test score on one of the following English-language proficiency exams that meets the following minimums
